NCB workers restive

By Clinton McGregor

Workers employed to the National Commercial Bank are reportedly restive and have warned that there could be major disruptions at the bank.

The more than 2,000 employees represented by the NCB Staff Association, wore black on Monday as a sign of protest over failed wage negotiations.

President of the association, Paul Stewart, told Radio Jamaica News that wage negotiations broke down recently after the association rejected the offer placed on the table by the bank.

He said the association tabled a counter-offer but this was not accepted by the management of NCB.

The bank then took the dispute to the Ministry of Labour, last week, but the Ministry instructed them to return to the local level to resume wage talks.

Mr. Stewart said the association has suggested that the parties meet this Thursday to resume wage negotiations.

He warned that failure by the bank to table a reasonable offer could lead to disruption at NCB branches across the island.
