The National Environment & Planning Agency [NEPA] has affirmed that it will be taking action against the National Water Commission [NWC] following Monday's fish kill at Zephyrton in Linstead, St Catherine.
The agency said on Tuesday that it will serve the NWC with an enforcement notice tomorrow.
The dead fish were observed in a tributary of the Rio Cobre.
NEPA said 50 dead fish were observed floating.
Director for Environmental Management and Conservation at NEPA Anthony McKenzie told Radio Jamaica News that untreated sewage was the cause of of the fish kill, "based on our observations."
He said the discharge of sewage emanated from a treatment plant serving the Claremont Housing Scheme and operated by the NWC.
Residents told Radio Jamaica News that for more than a week there has been a sewage-like odour, and on the weekend dead fish were seen in the river.
