More than 400 submissions have reportedly been received via a new app created to identify motorists committing traffic breaches.
The mobile app, called Drive Safe, was officially launched on Tuesday by the Ministry of Transport. It allows members of the public to upload videos and pictures of drivers who violate the Road Traffic Act.
Uploads include date, time and location stamps.
The video and picture uploads are screened by the monitoring agency, the Transport Authority, before being published on the app.
The app, which can now be downloaded through the Google Play Store, was made available on June 5.
In his remarks at Tuesday’s launch, Transport Minister Robert Montague said the Transport Authority has partnered with the Jamaica Constabulary Force to post images and reports to the app. These are also shared with the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch.
Mr. Montague said this will assist in providing effective investigation of uploaded footage.
