New JUTC buses to bolster fleet

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz
By Prince Moore

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says the 12 Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC) buses cleared earlier this week will be deployed to routes under stress.

Mr. Vaz says he is aware of complaints from commuters on routes with extended waiting time, adding that those routes will be given priority.

The minister told Radio Jamaica News that another shipment of buses should arrive in Jamaica by June.

"We have received production dates for the 100 buses, the CNG buses that I committed to in December of last year. Those will be produced and completed for shipment by the end of May, get here by the end of June, which will then put us at 120 buses under my watch in less than one year," he boasted.

Mr. Vaz said this is in addition to 50 other buses that former Transport Ministers Robert Montague and Audley Shaw had worked to procure.
