Security experts Robert Finzi-Smith and Lieutenant Commander George Overton, speaking on 'Beyond the Headlines'

Security expert Robert Finzi-Smith believes the new police commissioner will have a task to change the public's perception of the police force as well as to boost the morale of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Dr. Kevin Blake, who is one of four Deputy Commissioners, will assume the post of commissioner on Tuesday March 19.
Mr. Finzi-Smith says Dr. Blake will have to hit the ground running.
"He has no honeymoon time. It is not a luxury he can be afforded at this time," the security expert said, adding that the new commissioner's biggest challenge will be to make police officers feel good about carrying out their jobs.
"Once you can get over that hurdle, everything else is essentially simple," he reasoned while speaking Wednesday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines.
Security consultant Lieutenant Commander George Overton believes the country's crime rate should be a top priority of the new police commissioner along with winning over the trust of officers he will lead.
"Certainly the country still has the levels of crime, violence, shootings, homicides as their number one issue, and he has to remain focused on that because that's what the public is going to measure him by. He also has to build the trust and confidence of the men and women that he leads in the force. So he has those two things right away that he needs to get working on."
Mr. Overton was also a guest Wednesday on Beyond the Headlines.
