Israeli exit polls suggest the Gadi Eisenkot's bloc has won the largest number of seats in the general election but has fallen short of a majority.
Eisenkot leads the newly formed Yashar Party and is the main figure in the "change bloc", a group of opposition parties with the shared goal of ousting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The exit polls also suggest Netanyahu's Likud party is set to be the biggest single party in the Israeli parliament.
Israeli elections can be decided by just a handful of seats and exit polls have been wrong in the past.
Official results will start being released from midnight local time, but counting could take days.
Negotiations between parties will then ultimately decide who can form a government and could take weeks or longer.
All 120 seats in the Knesset, Israel's parliament, are up for grabs, but no party has ever won a majority, and in the past, governments have been made up of coalitions.
