No prison being built in Westmoreland, says Cuthbert Flynn

Ian Hayles and Juliet Cuthbert Flynn

The government has dismissed claims that it is constructing prisons in Westmoreland.

People's National Party Vice President Ian Hayles, in a video post online, has charged that the government is secretly constructing two prisons; one at Llandilo and another at Frome. He also noted that a new police station is being built in Little London.

But, in a swift response, Juliet Cuthbert Flynn, Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, said  there was no truth to the prison construction claims being made by Mr Hayles.

"There are two police stations that will be built in Westmoreland; one in Frome and one in Little London," she explained.

Mr Hayles had also raised concern about constructiion taking place at what he said wsa the cultural centre at Frome. Mrs Cuthbert Flynn clarified that "there will be no police station built at the cultural site." Instead, she said the new police divisional headquarters will be constructed "close to the cultural site."

She noted that holding centres are being built at the new police stations to safely keep detainees.
