As the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season gets underway, the Jamaica Public Service Company says it is prepared to quickly and effectively restore power to its customers in the event of a hurricane.

Last year, the country's main electricity provider came under fire after it took several weeks to restore power to some customers following Hurricane Beryl.

JPS Corporate Communications Director Winsome Callum says the power company is proactively working to prevent a recurrence.

"We have established formalised partnerships with local and overseas companies. Locally, we have third party contractors who are on standby and ready to work with us. And we have formalised arrangements with overseas firms. They have team members who will come into the island if we need them. They are on standby, ready to respond and support us so that we can get going and we can restore supply much more quickly than we did last year," she said.

Ms. Callum was a guest Tuesday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines.
