No road deaths recorded for first four days in July

    

Vice Chair of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, is crediting preparations for Hurricane Beryl for the country recording no fatalities over the last four days.

 

There have been 202 road deaths to date, compared with 219 for the similar period last year.

 

Dr. Jones expressed hope that this lull in road crashes and deaths will be extended. 

 

"It means that for the days leading up to Beryl and for the one day afterward, people have been focused on the danger of the hurricane... Yes, the roads have been blocked...but the main thing to take away from this experience is that if we focus on the dangers that the roads of Jamaica now present, if we cut out the excessive speeding, if we drive more carefully, if you don't drink and drive and smoke marijuana and drive, and do the right things, people will not die; people don't have to die," he asserted.
