A registered nurse has filed a lawsuit against a senior doctor and the University Hospital of the West Indies, alleging assault and battery, breach of contract, negligence and employer's liability arising from a series of events from May last year.
A copy of the suit obtained by Radio Jamaica News on Thursday, alleges that the hospital failed to invoke disciplinary and grievance procedures, and failed to honour its agreement to reimburse the claimant for her psychological care and treatment.
The nurse claims the series of events began on May 12, 2023.
The document claims she sustained various injuries, including a torn ligament.
It said doctor visits and treatment amounted to J515,000.
As a result, she is claiming for damages, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest on damages, costs and other relief the court believes to be just.
