National Water Commission customers in Lime Hall and New Ground, St. Ann will have to wait a while longer for the return of water in their pipes due to vandalism and theft of electrical equipment at the New Ground Water facility.

NWC says the facility's pumping unit was scheduled to be reinstalled on Friday. Its maintenance team is now assessing the extent of the damage to determine the earliest possible resumption of operations.

Regional Manager Richard Williams said the theft is the latest in a spate of vandalism.

"This latest occurrence is a significant setback for our customers, and a substantial financial burden to the NWC to replace the stolen electrical equipment. We urge residents to take an active role in protecting our facilities, as they are the ones who suffer when these incidents occur," Mr. Williams pleaded.
