Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fitz Bailey, the Head of the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID), is refusing to retract or apologize for a comment he made about the involvement of homosexuals in certain criminal activities.
On Monday, July 11, SSP Bailey said homosexuals were responsible for more than half of the crimes related to the lottery scam.
Both Jamaicans For Justice and the Jamaican Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays have heavily criticised the senior cop for the statement.
But SSP Bailey is insisting that he has nothing to apologize for, as his statement is supported by scientific evidence.
"I have empirical data to support that. We have the responsibility to investigate these cases (and) we’re not targeting any specific group or saying people should go and attack anyone. All I’m talking about is the profile of the individuals (involved in the lottery scam) just like we talk about the profile of persons who are involved in child sexual exploitation," SSP Bailey stated Tuesday evening, July 12, on RJR’s daily current affairs discussion programme Beyond The Headlines.
