The Opposition is warning that Jamaica will suffer serious fallout if Christopher "Dudus" Coke suffers a similar fate as his father who died under mysterious circumstances 18 years ago while in police custody.
“I would be beyond a scandal if we have a second generation of Coke coming to the same fate in the hands of the security forces. Obviously the value that would be placed on a so called kingpin would be very high on the part if international law enforcement authorities,” Peter Bunting, Spokesman on National Security said Tuesday evening on RJR’s current affairs discussion programme Beyond the Headlines.
However, the National Security Minister, who was also on the programme, has guaranteed Coke’s safety while in police custody.
“Certainly, as long as he is in the custody of the police the Ministry of National Security will ensure that his keeping is safe, that he is protected, that he’s not exposed to any abuse and that he is treated as any human being should be treated,” Senator Dwight Nelson said.
