Commuters in parts of St. Catherine now have an alternative mode of transportation following today's restart of passenger rail service.
The Jamaica Railway Corporation (JRC) began transporting commuters from Claremont to Spanish Town Monday morning, July 4.
The roll out of the trains coincides with Monday's start of the one month closure of the Bog Walk Gorge to facilitate pipe-laying work by the National Water Commission.
According to Barry Bonitto, the Chairman of the Jamaica Railway Corporation, the passenger service is initially for one month during which time an assessment will be carried out to determine if any tweaking is necessary.
"We’ll be doing three runs in the morning and three in the afternoon. The last run in the afternoon, we’re hoping that we can do that about 4 or 5 o’clock," he said.
Adults will pay $150 to travel on the Linstead to Spanish Town route while children will pay half price.
It will cost $80 for adults on the Angels to Spanish Town route and $50 for children.
There will also be a flat fee of $300 to travel on the executive coach.
