Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has dismissed claims by the parliamentary opposition that the country is in a recession
Opposition Spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson told Thursday's sitting of the House of Representatives that, based on the projection of the Planning Institute of Jamaica [PIOJ], the country is heading into a recession.
The PIOJ is projecting that gross domestic product will record a second consecutive quarter of decline for the period ended December last year.
Dr Holness says his administration has implemented measures that have strengthened the economy, and the economic indicators are not pointing to a recession.
According to the Prime Minister, there are sufficient buffers to withstand unexpected shocks.
