A major legal showdown is looming between Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and the Integrity Commission (IC) over its decision not to certify his statutory declaration over a three-year period and to refer its findings surrounding his finances to the Financial Investigations Division (FID).
Prime Minister Holness and his attorneys have filed a suit before the Supreme Court seeking judicial review of the decisions of the Commission.
The suit was filed on Monday.
In the suit, Dr. Holness strongly denied any wrongdoing and has applied for some 20 Orders from the Supreme Court.
According to the Prime Minister, the decision of the IC to refer its reports and findings to the FID and Tax Administration Jamaica represents an unlawful delegation of its statutory responsibility.
He also accused the IC of straying into areas that were not referred and not the subject of the Integrity Commission Act for report to Parliament.
He argued that the tabling of the report was intended to embarrass and cause harm to him, and as such was made for an improper purpose and in bad faith.
Dr. Holness also described as false and irresponsible claims that he misappropriated funds from a registered charity.
