PNP leadership race - both sides express concerns

Both sides of  the leadership race within the Opposition People's National Party, (PNP), are downplaying the perceived strengths of  the other's campaign for the presidency.

It has been stated that current leader Dr. Peter Phillips has the support of  most of  the influential persons within the party, including members of  parliament, senators and mayors.

However, his challenger, Peter Bunting's campaign is reported to be better financed.

According to Damion Crawford - a member of  Dr. Phillips' campaign team, money is important in a campaign, even as he criticised Mr. Bunting's past financial contributions to the party.

“Mr. Bunting is known to have resources, we feel that each individual should carry whatever resource that they have  automatically. For example, I’ve always offered my presence  - because that’s what I have - and he has never offered his resources. So we found that to be unfortunate, but that’s what it is, we just have to work from there,” Crawford said.

Brown-Burke’s decision

Member of  Parliament for St. Andrew South Western, Angela Brown-Burke, has shed light on her decision to support Peter Bunting in the PNP Presidential race - in an interview with RJR NEws, she said it was not an easy decision.

“If we were to talk about relationships , I have been closer to Comrade Phillips than Comrade Bunting, but I’ve had to take a hard look at where we are as a party and what needs to happen to ensure that we restore a kind of hope and enthusiasm and understanding as to what will Drive our policies and programmes to ensure that we are on path that all of us as comrades think we should be,”she said.
