PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell, and Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness, in conversation with a supporter
The People's National Party is stepping up its call for Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness to announce the date for the upcoming parliamentary general election.
PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell, speaking at a party meeting in Westmoreland on Saturday night, accused Dr Holness of leaving the country in limbo with the continued delay in announcing the date for the election.
Dr Campbell also claimed that the Jamaica Labour Party and the authorities have taken a silent approach to the damning allegations surrounding the financial affairs of the Prime Minister, as outlined in an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court by the Integrity Commission.
There had been widespread speculation that the Prime Minister would have announced the date of the election on Sunday (August 3), but he put such thoughts to rest during a video call with a supporter, when he told her definitively that this was not his intention.
He added however that the announcement would come "soon, soon!"
