General Secretary of the People's National Party (PNP), Dr. Dayton Campbell, says Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness is fearing a massive defeat, as he hit back at criticism that the PNP has become desperate in its calls for the election date to be announced.
PNP speakers from political platforms have been goading the JLP leader to call the election, with the latest coming from Dr. Campbell at a mass rally in Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Wednesday.
Dr. Campbell says, if the election is to be held in September, it is expected that Jamaicans will know the date they will be going to the polls in another two weeks.
"You need a certain number of days between the time you announce the election and Nomination Day, and you need a certain number of days between Nomination Day and Election Day. So right now, is either the Prime Minister going call it this Sunday or next week Sunday. If him go past that, a because him coward," said the PNP general secretary.
He dismissed Dr. Holness' suggestion that the PNP is experiencing fatigue, saying the party is fired up and ready to deliver victory at the polls.
Dr. Campbell argued that Prime Minister and JLP leader is feeling the pressure, as he along with members of his Cabinet took to the streets of the Corporate Area on Wednesday to distribute booklets containing the administration's achievements during its two terms of governing the country.
Dr. Holness, branded in a JLP T-shirt, issued the documents to motorists and commuters, but Dr. Campbell said the effort was in vain.
"Now, when the pressure take him, him run gone outta road like Jehovah Witness. Well, I have news for you tonight, sah... Jehovah Witness nuh vote, suh you nuh have nuh vote weh you a get from dat. Call di election and mek wi set you straight!" he declared.
