PNP to roll out code of conduct, job description for its MP aspirants

 

The People's National Party (PNP) is to roll out a code of conduct and job description for its Member of Parliament aspirants in the coming days.

 

The parliamentary opposition has expressed dissatisfaction with the policy approved in the House of Representatives in June, saying the process to develop the documents was rushed and not inclusive enough. 

 

Opposition Spokesperson on Information and South St. James MP aspirant, Nekeisha Burchell, says the PNP's guidelines will be more effective in judging the performance and behaviour of its MP aspirants.

 

"What I do know is that the People's National Party, Mark Golding being the leader, we have within ourselves conceptualised a job description for our candidates, which is rooted in integrity, in delivering on performance, and there is also built in a testing measure to see where we line up with our priorities. So I'm not going by Andrew Holness's delayed job description, which is really a PR exercise. I'm going by one that has been formulated so far by the PNP, which is rigorous, which is rooted in integrity and decency and performance and, of course, the metrics to measure us. And that, the PNP will be rolling out in another couple of days," she revealed. 

 

Ms. Burchell was speaking Thursday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106 FM. 

 

The original green paper on the job descriptions of parliamentarians was tabled in the House of Representatives in 2023 by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness. 

 

In response to criticism from the opposition and civil society, government MP Marlene Malahoo Forte, who crafted the green paper, said work will continue to improve the policy.
