People's National Party President Mark Golding has made it clear that the opposition party will be continuing its court challenge to the constitutionality of the controversial Counties & Parishes Amendment Act, 2025 passed by Parliament to make Portmore the 15th parish.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes ruled on Friday that the government must give an unequivocal undertaking not to appoint a day for the Counties & Parishes (Amendment) Act, 2025, to come into effect until there's compliance with the procedure prescribed in section 67 of the Constitution.

Section 67 of the Constitution covers the process for a standing committee of parliament to review the number of constituencies and boundaries.

The ruling follows a lawsuit filed by the Parliamentary Opposition challenging the constitutionality of the legislation.

Mr Golding, speaking at a party meeting on Sunday night, said Friday's ruling was only the first in a protracted legal battle.

He is adamant that the process the government used to pass the law is flawed.
