Kenneth Grant, President of the Trelawny Chapter of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica (LMAJ)
Kenneth Grant, President of the Trelawny Chapter of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica (LMAJ), has called for the leadership of the Area One Police Division and the Police Commissioner to immediately address the shortage of police personnel and other resources in south Trelawny.
Mr. Grant told RJR News that the concerns have been longstanding and discussed at length with senior police personnel in the division.
Speaking against the background of three shootings between Thursday and Saturday in Stewart Town and Freeman's Hall, Mr. Grant said there is need for more police to be deployed to stations in south Trelawny.
He said with the implementation of the Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) in Mount Salem, St. James and the State of Emergency in St. James, the already understaffed Trelawny Police Division has to provide personnel to assist with manning check-points along the border with St. James and assist with patrols.
He added that the number of officers at the Ulster Spring police station has declined from 21 to approximately 15, which he believes is not enough to adequately patrol the surrounding communities.
Mr. Grant is appealing for the next batch of police graduates to be sent to south Trelawny.
