By Halshane Burke

The Trelawny police is probing alleged illegal sand mining in Stewart Town.

It is reported that mining activities have been observed along the Dornoch River, which falls within a no-mining zone in the Cockpit Country.

Superintendent Winston Milton, who heads the Trelawny Police, says the police issued a stop order and launched an investigation as soon as they became aware of the activity.

Leonard Francis, head of the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), says he is unaware of any licence being issued for mining in the area.
