Police seize over 3,900 rounds of ammunition, 19 exotic animals in Westmoreland

Two men are being sought by the police after more than 3,900 rounds of ammunition, 19 exotic animals and uncustomed cigarettes were seized along the shores of White House, Westmoreland on Monday.

The intelligence-driven operation was led by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) and carried out on the Camp Hope and San San beaches.

It's reported that about 5 a.m., C-TOC investigators went to the White House area where the two men were observed removing items from the shoreline. When the police approached, they fled, leaving behind two knitted bags containing the ammunition.

Two makeshift cages containing 10 live and nine dead exotic parrots, along with two squirrels and several other items, including tools and more than 20 packs of uncustomed cigarettes were also seized.

The National Environment and Planning Agency was contacted and the animals taken into its care.

Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation is urged to contact C-TOC and 876-967-1389, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.

This is the second time in recent weeks the police have seized exotic animals smuggled into the country.

Last month several animals, including an ocelot cub were seized off the coast of Black River, St. Elizabeth. The cub has still not been located after it reportedly escaped.
