The police are to increase their presence on the country's highways.
In this week's Force Orders, Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington pointed to the need to maintain a strong patrol presence on main highways.
The Commissioner said persons express great concern when there is little or no police presence on highways.
Mr. Ellington said the absence of visible patrols enables the free movement of criminals and undermines public confidence.
He added that the presence of the police in marked vehicles reduces the likelihood of a crime being committed.
The Commissioner said it's therefore important for members to sustain a visible presence on highways as this is a comforting factor for citizens in their daily movement.
