Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine North Police division Superintendent Hopton Nicholson is warning the public to be mindful of misinformation about the crime situation in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
Superintendent Nicholson said there are several attempts being made to incite fear in members of the public by spreading "unverified" information, especially via social media.
He urged the public to avoid social media platforms that engage in the practice, and suggested the public must stick to credible media outlets.
"Persons are splicing old videos and saying that it is the current situation in Spanish Town. We ask that you use the JCF's corporate communication, the webpage, or the social media page for current information, or wait until the mainstream media put out a credible report on the status of what is going on. We do not want to have unnecessary panic. The security forces will be out there to ensure that law abiding citizens go about their lawful business," he declared.
Superintendent Nicholson said all roads have been cleared following Saturday's fiery protests following the death of reputed gangster, Sheldon Walters, otherwise called 'Termite'.
