By Kimone Witter

The policemen involved in the fatal shooting of three males, including a teenager, in East Kingston on Sunday, have been ordered detained while the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) continues its probe.

Those killed have been identified as 17-year-old Oshane Stubbs, 19-year-old Orando Campbell and 20-year-old Kayshawn Smith.

In a release Thursday, the Police High Command said the instructions were given based on information received relating to the incident.

The High Command says the November 10 shooting involved two members from the Kingston East Division.

The officers had reported that, while on patrol, they encountered a group of men along Windward Road.

During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the deaths of three people.

One of the policemen sustained a non-life-threatening injury and two illegal firearms were reportedly recovered from the scene.

The Police High Command has reiterated its full support of members who act within the law in the execution of their duties and says it is committed to the principle of accountability.

It also sought to assure the public of the commitment to support thorough and impartial investigations carried out by INDECOM, ensuring that the ends of justice are served.

The Police High Command says it remains steadfast in the pursuit of professionalism and transparency, and will continue to cooperate fully with the relevant oversight bodies in this and all other such matters.

INDECOM has disclosed that significant evidence was uncovered during its early investigation into the triple fatal shooting in East Kingston.

The investigative body says this necessitated the urgency of seeking the assistance of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The agency says it formally wrote to the JCF on November 12, requesting the arrest and detention of two of its members who were involved in the fatal shooting.

INDECOM says the two officers will be detained pending a judges' rule interview by its investigators.
