Residents protest fatal shooting of Manchester teen

The Kendal to Shooter's Hill main road in Manchester has been blocked as residents protest Sunday's shooting which resulted in the death of a Bellefield High School student, 14-year-old Mikhail Simpson.

 

His older brother, Malik Simpson, was also injured in what the police say was a motor vehicle chase.

 

When the pursuit ended Mikhail was found suffering from bullet wounds.

 

He was pronounced dead at hospital, while the police say Malik and another person escaped from the car.

 

The older sibling is being treated for a gunshot wound to his face.

 

But relatives and other residents are demanding justice as they believe the police acted unprofessionally.

 

Councillor for the Bellefield division, Mario Mitchell, has called for the police high command and the Prime Minister to intervene. 

 

"There are many more questions that need to be asked. One about the police, like body camera, and the recording of the shooting and the incident that evening. Because it means that nobody is safe. It could happen to me, it could happen to anybody, it could happen to your child. And it means that the police would have been careless in how they have conducted it because INDECOM have said that there is no firearm, there isn't anything illegal about the whole thing itself. So there are many, many questions that need to be answered," he said, demanding that the authorities "face the people to answer their concerns".
