Residents protest police fatal shooting of man off Spanish Town Road

There is tension between police and residents of Crescent Road off Spanish Town Road in St. Andrew after a 19-year-old man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation on Tuesday morning.
 
He has been identified as Brandon Reid, otherwise called 'Red Man'.
 
The residents blocked the intersection of Crescent Road and Spanish Town Road to demand justice.
 
They say the young man was shot while pleading for his life to be spared. 
 
"All him a beg fi life....dem shoot him, him drop pon di wall, dem shoot him, him drop a grung; dem still a fire afta him. Him go down pon him knee and him seh 'Please nuh, unuh cyah save mi? Unuh cyah help mi?'" one woman recounted.  
 
The residents claim there was no shootout. 
 
"Dem seh a shootout. Weh di gun deh? No gun. All now we cyah see di gun. No gun! Justice fi Red Man!"   
 
According to the police, members of the Zone 1 Operational Support Team were on patrol along Crescent Road when about 2:50 a.m., explosions were heard.
 
The police say a man dressed in a blue shirt exited Bowens Road onto Crescent Road with a firearm in his hand.
 
They reportedly called out to him, when he allegedly pointed the gun in their direction and opened fire, leading to an exchange.
 
The police say the man ran in the direction of a football field and fell.
 
The wounded man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 
The police say during a search of the area, a Glock 19 pistol with one magazine containing eight rounds was recovered.
