Restoration of Raheen Road to begin today

Work is scheduled to start today (Monday) to reconnect the main road from Vauxhall to Union, St. Elizabeth.

This road has  been impassable since October last year, when the box culvert in the community of Raheen collapsed.

The box culvert, which was several decades old, was made from steel.

Stephen Shaw, Communication Manager at the National Works Agency, said a reinforced concrete box culvert will be built at the location of the collapsed structure.

The work is to be done under a $36 million contract and is to be executed over the next five months.

Mr. Shaw said a detour road is to be constructed in the vicinity of the new box culvert.

This detour is expected to be completed within 10 days and is to be used by motorists, while the new box culvert is under construction.
