There has been an increase in road crashes in St. Ann this year, compared with 2021.

Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Commanding Officer for St. Ann, gave an update on the number of crashes following this morning's two-vehicle collision on the Llandovery main road

Two people were killed and 11 others are in hospital.

SSP Powell said there have now been 33 fatal collisions, resulting in more than 40 deaths.

"This is a significant increase over last year when, this same time, we saw some 23 traffic fatal collisions, resulting in 25 deaths," he said.

He added that most of the crashes in St. Ann result from poor driving behaviour.

A number of the crashes, he noted, have occurred along the Llandovery main road, which "is now one of those bad spots that we have been policing over the period of time just to mitigate the fatal accidents".

But SSP Powell cautioned that "the police cannot be everywhere at the same time policing indiscipline of our motorists". He advised drivers to "obey the rules of the road to ensure that when you are out there, you are at your optimum best".

The senior cop also urged members of the public to desist from capturing footage at crash scenes.
