The Jamaica Constabulary Force has confirmed that three male students have been arrested in connection with the assault of a student from Hopewell High School, which was captured on video and widely shared online.
A video of the incident has been making the rounds on social media.
In the video, a schoolboy is seen being hit in the face, kicked and beaten all over his body by a group of boys.
Superintendent Andrew Nish, Commanding Officer for Hanover, said other suspects are being sought in relation to the incident.
"The relevant authorities have been notified and counselling services will be provided to the victim and his family. The police condemn and will not condone these senseless acts of violence in Hanover or anywhere in Jamaica. They are working diligently to ensure that all parties involved are held accountability," he outlined.
He said the police will continue to work closely with the school community to prevent these incidents and ensure student safety and well-being.
The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) is reporting that it has located the victim and is in dialogue with the school with a view to providing the boy with psychological support.
It said its first responders visited the school on Thursday and spoke with the 15-year-old student who was assaulted, as well as his father.
CEO of CPFSA Laurette Adams-Thomas has called for parents to be more assertive in taking steps to safeguard and support their children.
