Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Friday he has suspended his independent presidential campaign and will now throw his support to Republican Donald Trump.
Mr. Kennedy said he will withdraw from the ballot in 10 battleground states.
In remarks from Nevada, the former president, thanked Mr. Kennedy for his endorsement.
Kennedy will campaign with and for Trump, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN.
Meanwhile, US Vice President Kamala Harris strode out onto the Democratic convention stage on Thursday night and told Americans they had a precious, fleeting opportunity in front of them – to back her candidacy and consign the extraordinary period since Donald Trump entered the political arena nine years ago to history.
Ms. Harris outlined her agenda to voters, contrasting her agenda with Mr. Trump's.
Ms. Harris, who is the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead a major-party ticket, accepted her party's nomination Thursday.
Sources say she will now turn her focus to next month's presidential debate.
Opinion polls have moved in their direction in the weeks since President Biden stepped aside but the race remains very tight race.
It will be won, too, in a handful of states, namely Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and North Carolina.
In nearly all of those places, it seems either candidate could feasibly win.
