Second suspect charged for Boxing Day murder in St. Elizabeth

Superintendent of Police Coleridge Minto, Commanding Officer for the St. Elizabeth Division

The St. Elizabeth police have charged a second suspect in connection with the Boxing Day murder of Dario Smith, otherwise called 'Dinky' of Cuffies Pen.

He is Ajanie Dunkley of Rice Piece district in St. Elizabeth.

Dunkley has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, assault at common law and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Rick Baker of Holland Village was similarly charged last week.

A man known only as 'Fido', from Lacovia in the parish, is also being sought for questioning in relation to the matter. He is being asked to report immediately to the Black River Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB).

Superintendent of Police Coleridge Minto, Commanding Officer for the St. Elizabeth Division, says the December 26 shooting stemmed from a dispute over a woman at a nightclub.

"Sometime at about 3:30 a.m., Smith was on his way home when he was attacked, shot and killed. The police conducted a targeted operation and one Ajanie Dunkley of Rice Piece district was arrested and charged. The second suspect, Rick Baker, O.C. 'Gullius', subsequently turned himself in. He was placed on an identification parade and has since been charged," he reported.

In the meantime, the police are asking Andre Blackwood of Siloah in St. Elizabeth to report to the Black River CIB in relation to an incident committed in August last year.

Superintendent Minto said several targeted operations have been conducted to locate Blackwood who is well known to the police.
