Senator Scott Mottley urges investigation of high rate of Alzheimer's in Jamaica

Opposition Senator Donna Scott Mottley

Opposition Senator Donna Scott Mottley has called for an investigation into the high rate of Alzheimer's in Jamaica.

She was speaking on Friday during the debate on a motion moved by her opposition colleague, Senator Dr Floyd Morris, urging the government to pass an Elderly Care & Protection Act to protect senior citizens.

The motion was first introduced three years ago.

Within the context of that broader call for protection of the elderly, Senator Scott Mottley urged that a special study be done to determine whether there is an unusual number of older persons now suffering from Alzheimer's and for measures to be taken to respond to their needs.
