The Ministry of Tourism says Delta Air Lines is to begin new flights between Atlanta, Georgia and Montego Bay on Thursday.
The additional service will depart Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport at 5:59 p.m. and arrive in Montego Bay at 8:52 p.m.
This latest addition brings Delta's total daily flights between Atlanta and Jamaica to five with four serving Montego Bay and one serving Kingston.
Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, says the development is a significant boost to Jamaica's tourism connectivity.
"What is particularly important is the fact that it's an evening flight, and we know for a fact that a lot of our potential European visitors do have a challenge coming to Jamaica with easy connections, especially if they're going through the United States, and what this offers is an easy connection to Delta's vast network and partnerships as it relates to flights between Atlanta and Europe.
"So what happens is that a lot of persons who are coming from Europe will have a very short connection time getting into Montego Bay, Jamaica via Atlanta. So it's a big plus for our efforts to continue to grow the European market beyond the direct services that we are pushing from Europe," he noted.
Mr. Seiveright said the announcement follows high-level engagements led by Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett and other officials during a visit to Delta's Atlanta headquarters in June 2023.
