Sentencing hearing for 'Beachy Stout' and co-convict begins

By Racquel Porter

The sentencing hearing for Portland businessman Everton 'Beachy Stout' McDonald and Oscar Barnes, the men convicted of murdering McDonald's wife Tonia, got underway in the Home Circuit Court on Thursday morning.

But the hearing was halted after presiding Judge Chester Stamp took a break at 11:26 after listening to plea in mitigation from the men's legal team.

Justice Stamp did not state the purpose for the recess or how long it will take before his return.

On March 6, a seven-member jury found McDonald and Barnes guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Prosecutors had reported that Tonia McDonald was killed on July 20, 2020, along the Sherwood Forest main road in Portland after her husband took out a contract on her life.
