Attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend
Robert Bell, the St. Andrew businessman who was captured on video assaulting a nurse last Tuesday, was denied bail when he appeared before the Gun Court Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning.
He is being represented by attorney Christopher Townsend.
Mr. Bell was charged on the weekend with several offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault at common law, possessing a firearm with intent to commit a first scheduled offence, and possession of a firearm with intent to cause injuries.
While detailing the events of Wednesday's court proceedings, Mr. Townsend explained the grounds in which the application was denied.
"[The judge] refused bail on the grounds that since the video has gone viral, for his safety, it is best that he remain where he is. She did, however, indicate that as soon as we have received all the documents, that we are at liberty to make another bail application, which we will do. We will also address the question of his safety on that occasion," he said.
The matter is set to return to court on July 9.
