The St. Catherine North Police have detailed a crime plan for the division which will utilise a number of strategies aimed at disrupting criminal elements.

Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, Commanding Officer for the division, says the security forces will also be working to firmly maintain public order in Spanish Town and Linstead.

He says anti-gang activities are also among the top priorities.

"Another priority we'll be focusing on is the controlling of hotspots, and that is occupying spaces that are prone to violence.... We are very much aware that most of the citizens that are residing in these communities, they are law abiding citizens. So understand that when we speak of some of these hotspot communities, we are not stereotyping. What we are saying [is] because of the propensity for violence, we pay some special attention to these communities," he explained.

Superintendent Nicholson was speaking during a stakeholder's forum in St. Catherine on Wednesday.

The crime plan comes as sections of St. Catherine saw a flare up of violence and unrest, last weekend.

The commanding officer said police engagement is necessary to ensure public awareness which will make it easier for the authorities to enforce the law.
