The St. Elizabeth police have charged the man accused of killing his sister at their home in Thornton last weekend.
Daniel Francis, 22, otherwise called 'Cuttie', was on Wednesday charged with murder.
Mr. Francis is said to be mentally ill.
The February 8 incident was the first murder recorded in the parish since the start of the year.
Residents reported that Mr. Francis attacked Britanny Hicks with a machete after she again refused his sexual advances.
The police have not confirmed this allegation.
An older sibling who visited the house to deliver food to Mr. Francis found Ms. Hicks dead sometime after 7 p.m., while Mr. Francis was hiding in another room.
