St. Elizabeth police report 60% reduction in murders

Superintendent Coleridge Minto, Commanding Officer for the St. Elizabeth Police Division

The St. Elizabeth Police are reporting a 60 per cent decrease in murders since the start of the year.

Eight cases have been recorded so far, compared to 20 during the same period last year.

Superintendent Coleridge Minto, commanding officer for the parish, says all major crimes except breakings have also declined.

In the meantime, as part of its continued community engagement, the police division will host a non-residential youth camp from August 11 to 15, sponsored by a private entity.

The camp will include mentoring sessions, back-to-school medical checks and a police recruitment drive.

"The camp would bring together young people from several communities, providing them with the opportunity to engage in a diverse range of activities. Participants will take part in informative presentations as well as actively participate in arts, culture and music sessions. The programme also includes an educational field trip to Kingston, offering them a broader perspective on our heritage," Superintendent Minto outlined.

He said the event has been carefully organised to ensure maximum benefit to the participants - fostering personal development, cultural awareness, community spirit and inspiring youth towards positive growth.
