The country's Pharmacy Council of Jamaica is now in limbo.
The Board of the Council expired on Thursday and the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica (PSJ) says it has not been informed by the Ministry of Health when members will be appointed.
In February, Cabinet gave approval for the Council to remain in place until May 19.
However, it did not say if a new board would be approved in time for the dissolution.
When contacted last night, Valerie Germain, the President of the PSJ, said the group was in the dark on the Health Ministry's next move regarding the future of the Council.
"We have no further information on this matter. What we do know is that we received a letter from the ministry asking us to indicate whether the persons who were nominated were still interested, that letter is dated May 5. We responded to the ministry indicating that yes the persons who were nominated are still interested in serving, that’s the extent of what we know thus far," she said.
The group recently expressed outrage that its choice of six nominees for the new Board of the Council was rejected by the health ministry without adequate reason.
However, the ministry said it indicated to the association that nine nominees should be selected from which it would choose the new members.
The ministry said the association refused to adhere to the request.
It added that it reserves the right to accept or reject nominees.
