Students without electricity may not be ready for back-to-school, says Wellington

Principal of St. Elizabeth Technical High School, Keith Wellington, says school administrators should be prepared to accommodate students who may not be fully prepared to return school come September.

 

His comment comes as sections of the parish remain in darkness more than a month after Hurricane Beryl.

 

"We have to be cognizant of the fact that many of them will not be prepared to come back to school, not just in terms of being properly attired and so on, but just finding the resources to register for school, to get the material, the proper uniforms. In terms of how we function as a school, we will have to be mindful that maybe students, it's easier for them to wear a polo shirt, maybe the school shirt, rather than the khaki and so on," the principal suggested.   

 

Mr. Wellington is, however, hopeful that the families and students will make some progress in time for the start of the new academic year.
