The police in Westmoreland have taken a suspect into custody in relation to Monday's brutal attack on a 13-year-old girl in Whitehall, Negril.
The teenager, who is from the same community, remains in hospital in serious condition after being chopped multiple times.
According to the police report, about 11:50 a.m., the teenager was transported by the suspect to his one bedroom dwelling, and while inside, an argument developed between them which became physical.
The suspect reportedly used a machete to inflict chopped wounds all over the girl's body.
He then escaped on foot.
The police were called and the teen taken to hospital where she was admitted.
Radio Jamaica News understands that the 13-year-old was attacked after she refused to engage in sexual intercourse with the suspect.
