Team Jamaica on Saturday
added two more gold medals to its stack at the 12th IAAF World Championships in
Athletics in Berlin, Germany.
In the last event on the penultimate day of the championships, the men's 4x100 metre finals team put on a sterling performance to cop the gold medal.
Just minutes earlier, Team Jamaica's golden girls also did the country proud in the 4x100 metre finals.
Jamaica's medal tally now stands at 12 with seven gold, three silver and two bronze.
This is an amazing and historic achievement for the country, and the Caribbean at large.
And Prime Minister Bruce Golding has congratulated the athletes on their brilliant and exceptional performance in Germany.
In his message to Jamaica's gold medalists, Mr. Golding said the athletes have outdone themselves, bringing with them a nation that is bursting with pride and joy, beyond words.
He said the entire Caribbean is brimming with joy and the rest of the world is celebrating Jamaica's victories.
Mr. Golding, who paid a special tribute to Asafa Powell for his outstanding performance despite his injuries, said this demonstrates his selflessness and love for country.
The Prime Minister said the country is anxiously awaiting the return of all members of the team.
He said without a doubt, despite the challenges we are going through at this time, the nation will have to find tangible ways to express its thanks to all members of the Berlin team.
