Kelly Reid, a resident of Bayshore Park, and Phyllis Powell, the mother of Shanique Thompson, one of the drown victims
Two girls drowned Sunday afternoon in the sea at Bayshore Park close to Harbour View in St. Andrew.
They have been identified as 16 year old Brianna Linton, a student of Clan Carthy High school and her friend, 15 year old Shanique Thompson, who attended Dunoon Technical High School.
Both resided at Jarrett Lane.
A resident of Bayshore Park, Kelly Reid, said sometime after 1 o'clock, he observed four girls frolicking in the water. However, by the time he realised that two of the girls seemed to be in difficulty, it was too late.
He added that he suffers from a foot problem so would have been unable to assist.
Fishermen and other residents eventually retrieved the bodies.
Shanique Thompson's mother, Phyllis Powell, said the loss of her daughter has hit her hard.
Ms Powell said her daughter, who resided in Mountain View, visited her on Sunday and told her of her plan to go to the sea but she had advised her against it.
She said she thought her daughter had gone home when she received the devastating news of her death.
