A teenager is suspected to have drowned in the Plantain Garden River in St. Thomas on Tuesday.
He is 15-year-old Jameer Burke, of Arcadia in the parish.
Jameer would have moved to fourth form at Morant Bay High School come September.
According to police reports, the teen was vacationing in Wheelerfield when about 1:30 p.m., he accompanied family members to the river.
While swimming with other people at a section popularly known as Joy Hole, Jameer reportedly stepped on a stone in a deep section of the river and went under the water.
His body later resurfaced and was retrieved.
Attempts were made to resuscitate him but without success.
