The Bahamas: Gov't takes steps to protect borders as Haitian crisis deepens

The Bahamas government says it has taken significant steps towards securing the country's borders in light of the situation in Haiti.

Prime Minister Phillip Davis says the administration is now deploying significant Royal Bahamas Defence Force assets to establish a southern Bahamas blockade operation, including surface vessels, aircraft, and 120 highly trained personnel.

Operations will focus on the northern coast of Haiti, the Old Bahama Channel, and the Windward Passage.

Mr Davis says that through collaborative efforts, the Bahamas has successfully intercepted a number of vessels originating from Haiti.
