The police are at an active scene at the state owned oil refinery Petrojam on Marcus Garvey Drive.

It's reported that sometime after 6 o'clock Thursday morning, men were spotted in a car parked on the compound of the company.

Detectives from the St. Andrew South Police carried out an operation and the men were detained.

Two illegal guns were seized.

Radio Jamaica News was informed by a senior investigator that the police are probing intelligence that the men were hired to kill a senior employee at the facility.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News, Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew South Police, Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, confirmed that the police are investigating what he termed a "unique situation" at a location on Marcus Garvey Drive.

"I'm not able to comment much at this time as you would expect that what happened, happened just earlier this morning. The police responded to some information that resulted in three males being arrested, two firearms recovered, one motor vehicle seized," he said.

SSP Ricketts said the investigation is being conducted jointly with the Kingston Western and Kingston Eastern police divisions.

"The incident actually occurred in the Kingston Western Division, but the initial action by the police was carried out by members of my team, the St. Andrew South division. At this time, the detectives from Kingston West and Hunts Bay CIB are huddled down trying to piece together why three men armed with weapons would be in a motor car at that time of the morning."
