A reputed Corporate Area gang leader who was wanted by the police in connection with a triple murder and other serious offences has been captured by the police.

Thirty-three-year-old Orlando Grant, otherwise called 'Rufus' and 'Glasses', was arrested on Monday during an operation at a school in St. Andrew, where an Easter holiday event was scheduled.

According to commanding officer for the St. Andrew North Police, acting superintendent Randy Sweeney, the alleged gangster was apprehended with a modified weapon with an invisi-switch plate, commonly referred to as a chip block, enabling it to fire automatically.

"He was apprehended by the police during an operation activity in the Manning's Hill District. When he was apprehended, a Glock 19 pistol along with two magazines and 50 rounds of ammunition were seized," the senior cop outlined. One of the magazines was reportedly transparent.

Grant was taken into custody without incident and in the presence of several others.

He is expected to be formally charged soon.

Acting superintendent Sweeney described Grant as a major player behind the violence in several communities and the alleged leader of a gang operating in the area.

"The arrest of Grant is significant for the St. Andrew North Division and by extension the JCF because he is a person of interest in several crimes that were committed, not only in the St. Andrew North Division but also other divisions to include the St. Andrew Central. The apprehension of this man is significant because we are of the view that it can have meaningful impact on crime and violence especially in the Grants Pen area."

Acting superintendent Sweeney said Grant was listed as a person of interest in a triple murder committed on April 1, 2022 at Morgan Lane in Grants Pen. He was also wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Oshane Barkley, otherwise called 'Bads', who was killed on May 14 last year, at Rilla Avenue in Kingston 8.
